The submarine U484 was sunk by depth charges dropped by RCAF 423 squadron, RCN frigate DUNVER and corvette HESPELER off the Inner Hebrides.

Surveying Details

24 October 1969. A non dangerous wreck was reported at approximately 56 30 00N, 007 40 00W (authority not stated).

25 February 1971. A type 164 sonar search was made to a radius of 2 miles around the reported position. No wreck was found. A contact was made by echosounder.
Report dated 13 October 1970.

13 January 1985. The site was located on 21 August 1985 at 56 30 00N, 007 39 39W, but not fully examined. The side scan sonar indicated a height of 0.5 metres in a general water depth of 166 metres. The length was 50 metres (164 feet) and beam 8 metres (26 feet). The keel is lying on an orientation of 020/200 degrees. It has apparently settled well into the sandy seabed.
