Full Description

NF75SE 31 769 530

A farmstead comprising two unroofed buildings and an incomplete enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Hebrides, South Uist 1880, sheet xlvi), but it is not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1972).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 8 May 1997

This multi-period site includes at least six buildings. One is a possible Norse long house or large hall, of which only the robbed foundations remain, another is a fine and well-preserved kiln barn. The high quality and large size of the structures suggests that it was an important, high status site, and its proximity to Nunton house indicates continuity in high status occupation in this area. The adjacent loch side has been cleared in places, for easier access to the water.
MML 4.9.2000

Balds 1805 map of Benbecula depicts a sub-linear settlement along the eastern side of the peninsula, which is annotated 'Long Aird'.
