Full Description
NB01NE 1 centred on 070 164
A small township comprising seven unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building, and two enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Harris 1881, sheet iii). Five unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1972).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 18 February 1997
Current AP's show three blackhouse type ruins aligned north / south with three other structures close by. A irregular enclosure with possible internal features / divisions is located to the south, adjacent to the river. The area east and west of the settlement is characterised by extensive lazy beds. This cultivation appears to extend beyond the original enclosing dyke head. Balds map shows settlement on both sides of the river, enclosed within a dyke head. The original settlement was cleared around 1820.
