Full Description
Two conjoined rectilinear structures with separate entrances, both with drystone boulder walls and orientated N-S. The northern (A) measures 8m by 3.5m, with walls up to 1m high internally; an entrance, 0.8m wide, lies toward the N end of the E wall; featureless interior. The southern structure (B) measures 7.5 by 3.5m, with walls surviving to 1m high. adjoined to the west wall of A, the overlap being 2m - there are traces of rebuilding at this junction which suggests that B is secondary. As only one structure is visible on the second edition OS of 1904, it is possible that B was only built after this date. The entrance to B is 0.7m wide, and situated midway along its E wall. A secondary stone partition foundation encloses the northern 2m of its interior. A rubble mound containing traces of walling lies to the W of A and could be the remains of an enclosure recorded here on OS 1881 and 1904. To the E of the structures an erosion face in a discrete mound revealed a midden dump containing 19th and 20th century artefacts, such as a boot sole and porcelain, as well as sea-shells and peat ash. The combined field and cartographic evidence suggests that occupation of this site must have continued into the 20th century.
