Full Description

SU 71:
Orientated from north to south this small single cell is constructed of turf and lined with stone. Measuring 4 x 3 metres, this structure has opposing entrances in the east and west wall towards their north ends. Two orthostats mark the northern end of the interior lining and a small ambrey may be seen in the centre of the southern end.
Interpretation: This cell is reminiscent of thoses seen at Guinnerso on the west shore of Lewis. It is possible that this feature is transhumance site, however no other similar sites have been seen anywhere in the survey area.
Impact Detail: This structure falls within 20 metres of the northern edge of the proposed haul road.
