Full Description

Surrounding Land Status code - A Recommended Action - Monitor, sample.

This site is in an elevated position with machair sands rising up sea cliffs, from the beach levels to the NE & SW. An AOC watching brief associated with Scottish Water mains renewal works, identified detailed stratigraphy in this area, suggesting occupation layers. These deposits comprised of midden deposits, burning episodes, and included animal bone, shell and coarse ceramics; all consistant with nearby settlement activity. Proposed post-ex anaylsis will give these layers better chronological definition.
