Eroding short cist burial found spring 2008, by Dr M. Harman, SNH.

A single articulated skeleton (in a crude crouched burial position) was excavated from within a small slab-lined cist within an area of dune blow-out on the west coast of south Uist. Thirteen other possible features were identified, ranging from walls to cairns and cists. Three were partially excavated, but no evidence to suggest that they once contained burials was discovered.

Site location amended to correspond with details in the report (2018). The cist was located in a sand blow out with midden material scattered in the general area, including cermic sherds & two fragments of a Late Bronze Age socketed axe. It was considered that the cist was ill suited for the individual in terms of size, and it may have had an earlier purpose. Analysis of the skeleton identified a male between the age of 26 -35. C14 dates returned a mid- later Iron Age date AD 250-410.
