Full Description
Site identified during monitoring of Scottish Water Pipeline. Subsiquent excavation investigated a limited part of what must be a larger possibly multi period settlement.
The site comprised of a sub circular structure from which a large amount of ceramic and quartz was recovered. Significant deposits of peat ash, and isolated hearths were identified; other finds comprised of fire cracked stone, hammerstones and several quern stones.
Analysis of the ceramic assemblage indicated a combination of Neolithic, Early and Late Bronze Age pottery, while the lithic analysis catagorised a date range of Bronze Age to Early Iron Age.
No definitive date for this site could be established.
