Full Description

A rock shelter, built beneath a south-facing overhang at the base of an outcrop of rock near the summit of Gob Sgùrabhal. The interior of the shelter is approximately 1 metre high. Upright slabs have been used to mark out a rectangular space on the floor, standing to a height of 0.4 metres The shelter is located on the edge of a peatfilled basin, which is surrounded by low outcrops on three sides. This area has been cultivated in the past, with lazy beds lying immediately to the south of the shelter.
Site was evaluated ahead of wind turbine development. The results of this work revealed a cobbled area with a curb demarcating the exterior from the interior of this feature. No midden material was identified, an ochrous type of mineral, worked flint and quartz finds were recovered from stratified deposits.
