Full Description
A large low grass covered sub- oval mound (approx 50m x 35m) adjacent to the Dun in Loch Torcusay. Located in a slightly raised position above the surrounding boggy fields. There are no obvious features; however there are several shallow depressions, one is sub-rectangular (possibly reflecting a former structure), others are more irregular (possibly reflecting quarrying activity). A large stone sits at the south -eastern end of the mound. A copper alloy fragment was recovered by a metal detectorist (June 2025) & reported to TTS; currently held by MnE. This object maybe a stirrup terminal and appears to show two shafts joining into an animal headed terminal. The decorated terminal head is reminiscent of a horse or dragon; and is suggestive of a Norse style (possibly 11th century).
