Along the ridge between Tom a' Mhaide and Macphee's Hill and usually situated in exposed positions on rock outcrops, are about 25 peat cleits in varying stages of denudation. Where best preserved they basically consist of a low rectangular platform of stone, revetted by vertical slabs, measuring overall about 5.0m by 2.0m. Other platforms are now reduced to elongated turf-covered mounds, or sub-rectangular settings of vertical slabs. The cleits occur in peat-cutting areas throughout the remainder of the island, eg NL 556 827; NL 565 839.
Visited by OS 30 August 1973.
