Full Description

NB43SE 6 4555 3146.

A stone 'hoe', of mica-schist, length 9.25", breadth 3.8", tapering from narrow rounded butt (2" thick 1 1/2" from end) to narrow rounded tip (0.8", 1" from end), hour-glass perforation 2" across on one face,
1.75" on the other, minimum 0.9" at 2.5" - 3.4" from butt (widest point of curving sides) was found at no. 10 Holm (NB 3555 3146) by A Macdonald in 1955, 1' below ground that had been skinned of peat. It was sent for inspection to the NMAS in 1957 by Dr Donald Macdonald.

Mr A Macdonald is now deceased and the find-spot can not be verified, although it was in the grounds of no. 10, shown on map extract. Information contained in letter from H C Prestedge, OS chief surveyor to OS 8 November 1971.
