Monument record 356 - LOCH ARNISH, LEWIS

The foundations of the islet in Loch Arnish seem to be formed of rubble-work.

Investigations at this site (2016) and the following analysis (2017) identified that this is a complex multi period site with use from the Early-Mid Neolithic through to the Post Medieval period. Pottery fragments representing a number of Neolithic vessels were recovered from the loch, including fragments of baggy & ridged jars, Shouldered bowls, and Unstan type bowls. Other undecorated ceramic fragments are likely to represent Bronze or Iron Age vessels; later cylindrical Craggan ware fragments were also recovered. KM (Arch Service) 02/09/2026
