Description
An assessment of the historic environment was undertaken on behalf of Cnoclee Environmental Services during July and August 2025 in advance of replacing a 33kV wood pole overhead power line (OHL) connection that runs between Ardhasaig and Tarbert, Harris. The assessment covered several routes and spurs spread over approximately 5km. Nineteen assets related to the historic environment were recorded through desk-based research and field survey within 25m of the OHL routes. No designated assets were present within the survey area. The non-designated assets primarily related to crofting and settlement in the area over the last few hundred years and included buildings, dykes and a sheepfank. Evidence of prehistoric and medieval activity was not clearly present within the survey area although it is feasible some of the 18th to 20th century crofting activity incorporates earlier settlement and a truncated circular structure located a short distance outwith the survey area could be prehistoric. The potential for buried archaeology to be present beyond the immediate vicinity of the visible assets was considered to be low while no significant setting effects were predicted as a
result of the replacement OHL works.
